Success Story: Elevating Gender
and Human Rights about Climate Change in the Private Security Industry
PRISEP
stands out as a unique organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and
human rights within the Private Security Industry (PSI) in Tanzania. In an
industry where 75% of the workforce is male, women's rights and voices are
often underrepresented. To address these challenges, PRISEP actively engages
with other organizations to build capacity and share these issues for the
betterment of the sector.
Recently,
PRISEP had the opportunity to participate in a training session organized by
the Gender and Climate Change Coalition (GCCTC) in collaboration with Women
Fund Tanzania – Trust (WFT-T). The training, titled "Feminist Awareness Training on Climate Justice," focused on
the interrelationship between feminism, wellness, and climate justice. It was
held at the Nendiwe Feminist Wellness and Coaching Centre in Dar es Salaam,
Tanzania.
During
this training, PRISEP enhanced its understanding of how climate change impacts
female security guards in their roles. Given the nature of the industry, where
many women work in remote locations, they face significant challenges,
including gender-based violence (GBV) and psychological stress.
By
participating in these trainings, PRISEP has not only gained valuable insights
but has also amplified its voice in advocating for the rights and well-being of
women in the private security sector. This initiative reflects PRISEP’s
commitment to creating a safer, more equitable work environment for all
individuals in the industry.
