Success Story: Enhancing Gender
and Human Rights in the Private Security Industry
The
Private Security Gender and Human Rights Platform (PRISEP), in collaboration
with Women Action towards Economic Development (WATED) and the International
Code of Conduct Association (ICOCA), successfully shared research findings on
the gender and human rights situation in the private security industry. This
research was conducted across three East African countries: Tanzania, Uganda,
and Kenya.
The
session, held in Dodoma at Rafiki Hotel, brought together a diverse group of
stakeholders, including the Tanzania Police Force, Occupational Safety and Health
Authority (OSHA), private security trade unions in Tanzania including TSIA and
TUPSE, Academicians, mediation and arbitration bodies, company owners, media
representatives, and delegates from neighboring countries involved in the
private security industry. Representatives from ICOCA were also present.
During
this session, the research findings were presented, and valuable
recommendations were provided by the attendees. This collaborative effort marks
a significant step forward in promoting gender equality and human rights within
the private security sector in East Africa.
